And then, it appeared, swift and silent, fast and deadly, no more than a shadow outlining against the pale disc of the moon, yet gifted with such a strong presence that nobody in the world could have looked at the silhouette without immediately feeling the most ancestral fear rise from the depths of the heart. For a silhouette it was, and indeed a human one, in spite of the long cloak and large hat hiding the body and features.

Then the blades were out, sharp, flashing brief silvery reflections between two shadows, seeming to cut through air itself with a faint yet lethal chant. A song of pain and death, as these blades only could produce. The men raised their blasters, in an attempt to defend themselves, but it was already too late. The Hunter was amongst them, and none would escape his dance, each of his step, each of his leaps, being the preludium to another movement of the swords’ Song. In front of their frightened eyes, the legend had came to life, unexpected, and was now revealed as even more than what all the tales could have ever told.

From the corner of the street, hidden in the shadows, the child was watching, fascnated by this deadly show to the point of forgetting all logics, when even instincts themseles were screaming to her to run and never look back. Her deep, dark-blue eyes were focused on the dance, unable to follow the Hunter’s moves, yet still trying, trying to decipher their secret meaning. Urban legends were always running in the big city, a new one rising each time another was to die, and still, people told them without really believeing. The Hunter was one of them; for the child, the Hunter wasn’t a legend anymore now.

When the blades stopped singing, thee wasn’t any single human still alive in the dark alley. The silhouette stood amongst the corpses, calm and steady, fresh blood dripping from the twin swords, the chill wind wrapping around her as if to ask for a last dance. And then, all of a sudden, the Hunter turned to her, the hat and floating cloak unveiling, for a brief second, the eyes and face of the living legend. A second was enough, in this moment of pure stillness, enough to discern the dark eyes, the long white air, the odd marks tattooed on her cheeks – for the Hunter actually was a woman, there was no doubt about it, and it was suddenly appearing like the evidence itself.

The little girl thought that she was going to die too, that it was her turn, in a cold, inhuman cycle of logics. But then, without a sound, without a word, without any gesture allowing to know whether she had actually spotted the child or not, the assassin simply turned on her heels, and disappeared in the shadows, to never reappear again.

The Hunter had however very well seen her. It couldn’t be otherwise.

Recently directed to the new profession updates on the official site, I’ve taken a quick peek and pondered a little more about them… Being more and more tempted by my ‘bounty hunter/assassin’ idea than by the others I had until now, I looked at it in this new light, sort of…

Artisan
This profession includes skills from the basic crafting and surveying disciplines. A player in this profession is well versed in using schematics to build things.

Doesn’t look like Keth at all, huh.

Brawler
This profession includes skills from the unarmed and melee combat disciplines. A player in this profession can be extremely dangerous in close combat.

Interesting way. Melee combat can always be important in this kind of ‘job’, so I really can’t ditch it. Moreover I’ve always had this thing with swords and daggers, so I’m being partial.

Entertainer
This profession includes skills from the dancing and musicianship disciplines. A player in this profession can play musical instruments and perform dance routines for the benefit of others.

I suppose you can be an assassin and like music, but no. Not as a ‘profession’ *winks*

Marksman
This profession combines skills from the ranged combat disciplines. A player in this profession is extremely dangerous in ranged combat.

Other choice I could do for my future profession, for obvious reasons.

Medic
This profession includes skills from the wound treatment and medicine crafting disciplines. A player in this profession is a valuable ally to any combatant.

Useful skills in this, I suppose, but not the first choice.

Scout
This profession combines outdoorsmanship and animal harvesting disciplines. A player in this profession will be able to set up campsites to protect players from wildlife.

Maybe too much ‘forest-nature’ type for a city-dweller like keth’ll surely be…

So, guess my first choices would be eitehr Brawler or Marksman. That is, if I go on with this idea, but I don’t have any better one for the moment, and I’d like to see to which extent I could push it too.

Okay, I need a spaceship.

No matter what, no matter the costs – I’ll need one. I’ll need the ability to move fast. I reallized this yersterday, when I watched my bf play Morrowind a little again, and damn, damn even a level 40ish char… it’s damn SLOW! I think I’ve been definitively corrupted by all these long months playing a Fixer… can’t do anything against this now, heh, so I’ll do with it. Why, oh why can’t we have a Grid… I luv my Griddy so much – even if we’ll have hyperspace instead.

Don’t know yet what kind of ‘vehicles’ will be in game, but I admit I haven’t especially spent hours and hours looking for info. I however still remember my old paper SW RPG enough, so it’ll be of some help, at least a little… Everybody will probably want YT-1300 ships anyways. I hope there’s gonna be some more choice than this though, or it’s not going to be very funny. Maybe we can paint them. Someday.

Hmmmm…. I’ve been wondering about this pic since the past two days. Had drawn in this week-end with no special intention, but the more I look at it, the more I wonder if it wouldn’t make a good pic for Keth?… Without the wires. And without the cybernetics also, maybe, although… it could be something funny to add.

Thought to ponder.

Aye, that seems so evident to me, but maybe I’d better write it down too, in case someday I’d need to remember the reasons why ^_^

I think – as usual, for the moment – that Keth will be human. I’ve already played non-human races in SW:RPG, but none of the races currently available to players really attracts my attention as a choice for a char. I doubt some more will be added before I actually have the game installed and dives into the character creation.

I admit having thought about playing a Twi’lek, just for the fun of it, but it doesn’t strike me as interesting, maybe ebcause I don’t know that much about their culture, and can’t really play around this for a start. So, I guess I’m going to stay with the human idea right now. Maybe Corellian, even, though I haven’t decided anything about this yet. And yes, I know, it’s a very basic and classical choice. And I don’t care. And I can still change my mind if i find a better idea. :p

A few more thoughts I pondered while browsing the official site again, because what I had read there a month (or even more?) ago had somewhat slipped out of my mind…

I have to decide on a profession too, that is, so…

Smuggler: Would be my choice, I admit. I kinda like the concept, the name alone already gives me interesting ideas, and I think it could provide me with several interesting roads to follow when it’s coming to what’s been already discussed about the Azu’kai… Not mentioning the fact that it may be quite close to what the Fixer profession is, and everybody knows how much I like Fixers. Idea defintiely kept in store!.

Bounty Hunter: Another choice I have in mind. I played one in SW original RPG… heh, that was still at the d6 time, even… and I remember having liked it a lot. I do however know myself and my, errm, let’s say, ‘talents’ in whatever looks like PvP… which makes me fear a little about what could come out of such an experiment. Not that I’m a complete moron when it comes to fighting tactics in a game, but being definitely a roleplayer more than a player, I honestly doubt that I’d have the patience to run after equipment and such. Nevertheless, I’m keeping this idea too, because, after all, I don’t know yet how things will turn out… and all in all, I love the roleplaying side of the profession, so I certainly won’t discard it for such a trivial reason, huh!
Note for further reference: NOT turn into another Catherine!

Combat Engineer: Something else that, to me, would be worth a try. I like the idea of a char knowing her way through weaponry, but not completely unable when it comes to actually wield said weapons. Moreover, maybe I’m too entrenched within old table-top RPG reflexes, but I always think that ‘support’ chars are indeed useful. Heh, after all, when the Mighty Warrior’s sword is broken, here comes the need for someone to repair it. But – and this is going to be a big but – I want to see what this profession is able to do first. I just hope it won’t turn out as these poor Engineers… although, from a pure RP point of view, I honestly don’t care about ‘game mechanics limitations’. Boundless power to imagination!

I’ll still have to ponder these professions, and more than once, but I think I can consider for the moment that my choice will very likely be one of these three.

To be continued…

I think I should maybe first begin with the name…

After many tries with several “use your own name to generate a SW name” tricks, I realized that neither my first nor last name put together, in whichever way, were giving any good result. So I browsed a little through “suggested names” lists and various other stuff, took a few notes, and tried to decide on something. This may however still change, but I’m going to stay with it for the moment… it at least gives me the feeling that I’m up to something, and am working on a basis, even if a small one.

So, I’m staying with Keth Dryden for the time being. Not sure, also, if this will be her (yes, it’s gonna be a her) true name. Matt however remarked that it could lead to some confusion with ‘Keith’, though the two names don’t sound the same (or maybe my perception is flawed, due to my awful French accent), so maybe I can consider “Keth” is a diminutive of some sort; of something like “Kethia” or ‘Kethri” maybe, I’ll still have to think about it.

Now why Keth, or Kethri… don’t know. It’s a name I like a lot. I don’t want to use ‘Kerydwenn’ again, for it really doesn’t sound like a SWish name at all. But I like the sound of “Kethri” a lot (I’m pretty sure the name comes from a book, but the hell if I can remember which one…). It’s also the name I gave to my char in a Sci-Fi game created by my boyfriend, set in Frank Herbert’s universe, and as I like the char a lot… I think the name’s just sticking in my mind. But I’d prefer not using ‘Kethri’ directly, so ‘Keth’ sounds good to me.

Okay, so they got me in… First with the reinvention project, then with Laushe. Ah well. I suppose using a blog isn’t a bad idea for throwing ideas here and there, and given the way I’m building this char, it’s certainly going to be quite useful. I suppose, also, that the random results of my doodling this evening had at least the good side-effect of making me think some more about what will be my char… and giving me a few new roads to explore, maybe.

Let’s see now if I’m able to put some order in all of this too…
